Mr O. #14: Branded.

Couture bad habits.

... and for quitting smoking.

Mr O. #13: TERRYWOOD by Terry Richardson

On Friday 24th the gallery/publisher/creative community OHWOW has opened the doors of Terry Richardson's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, TERRYWOOD, presenting over 25 of his latest photographs. The exhibition consists of a series of images showing Hollywood's life multiple facets,as seen through Terry's eyes.

TERRYWOOD takes all that Hollywood represents – the celebrity, broken dreams, kitsch, and sorted history – but, just as with all of Terry’s well-known work, he re-contextualizes familiar imagery, re-identifying it with characteristics reflective of his own persona, imparting them with a different narrative.
The exhibition will be on through to March 31st 2012. Now, what to do: going to LA or just hope for another edition in Europe?

Mr O. #12: Raf Simons leaves Jil Sander

You Will Be Missed.

The Autumn/Winter 2012-13 shown in Milan on February 25th was his last collection at Jil Sander: a bittersweet final to a seven years collaboration with the German fashion house.
Is Raf Simons Dior bound? We don't know yet, but what we do know is that the moment the models came out clutching their pastel coloured coats with such grace will surely remain in the history of fashion forever.

Mr O. #11: Lulu Gainsbourg / L'eau à la bouche

Bonjour le monde!

I love this Sixties videoclip by French singer Lulu Gainsbourg, who pays a homage to his dad Serge with his single L'eau à bouche: in the video he whispers his dad's words whilst strolling around a pool in very charming company of some truly fashionable ladies.
J'adore!

Mr O. #10: My Sin, Lanvin

Good night...

Mr O. #9: Phoebe English A/W 12

I was very pleased to find out that the winner of this year’s Vauxhall Fashion Scout award is Phoebe English. With a judging panel including the likes of Kate Moss, Katy England, Marios Schwab and Susie Lau, there is no doubt that the Merit Award will set the career of the talented Central St Martin’s graduate into the right path.
Lucky enough to be attending the show,I was amazed by the way  different materials have been manipulated and engineered to form  sculptural surfaces which are structural, flat and decorative at the same time. The whole collection is about contrast: rubber fringes are weaved into caged structures for the body, translucent latex dresses and industrial felted knitwear are overlayered to create theatrical silhouettes.
Bravely moving away from the comfort zone of the neutral colour palette dominating her previous collections, in the A/W 12 Phoebe English surprises with a vibrant pink that definitely stands out like a bright flash next to the textured black of her box-like yet very feminine creations.

Mr O. #8: MaxMara A/W 12 / Wish List

Let's admit it: Italians do it better! I am not referring to some kind of naughty practice, nor being overly patriotic (well, just a tad).
I am talking about the art of creating power suiting and outwear  that only one fashion house  has the right of being named Queen of: MaxMara.
The label inventor of the iconic double-breasted coat "101801", with its Autumn/Winter 2012 collection definitely lives up to its reputation.
Soft military inspired peacoats have a cocoon-ish shapes, in line with the big volumes story present in the next Winter. Sleek cashmere tailored pieces, marinière tops worn over sailor pants,  crocodile leather used for belts and coats, all concur in the representation of the ultra-chic understated glamour the Italian maison is renowned for.

Below are some of my favourite looks form the catwalk, all featuring coats (and also a to-die-for coatlike jumpsuit!).
I kind of feel like skipping Summer and going straight to the next Winter.
Note of the day: I need a MaxMara coat in my life!

Mr O. #7: Brand Crush / Avelon

I've always had a thing for Northern Europe fashion labels. Maybe it's for their minimalistic approach to design that makes their clothes understated, evergreen and wearable day-to-night, season after season. Or perhaps it's because their creations are so androgynous and sleek that every item has the ability to donate an edge to any outfit, making you look like a power-woman!
One of my favourites of the moment is the Dutch brand Avelon.

Under the guidance of creative director Erik Frenken (former Viktor & Rolf designer) they are at their third collection, the S/S'12. Deliberately distancing themselves from mainstream trends, they take inspiration from real metropolitan people who want to actually live their clothes by merging many different styles into one outfit... just as I like it!
This is why Avelon can be defined as a "Luxury street wear label" whose identity comes from unpredictable combinations of elegant designs and rough detailing, fine fabrics and raw cuts.

Avelon's signature is: leather detailing!
You can find it on pretty much everything: from their skinny jeans, to oversized tops and biker jackets with zipped removable sleeves (yes, they can be transformed into waistcoats!!)

I just love their tailored pieces, silky boyish shirts and futuristic dresses!

Mr O. #6: Jewellery Crush / Mawi

I have been a big fan of Mawi costume jewellery for quite a long time now. The pieces I own are kept like they were my babies and I am so flattered by all the compliments I receive when I wear them... even from random people on the tube staring at my rings while I hold the pole!
Mawi collections feature the perfect combination between a cutting-edge, contemporary style and a touch of old-school glamour.
Bold, big statement pieces can lift-up even the dullest outfit.
Here's a selection from their S/S'12 collection.
Simply: To Die For.
