After Stefano Pilati's farewell during his last A/W 12 collection in Paris on March 5th, there were many speculations about who would take the helm of the creative direction at Yves Saint Laurent. Today it has been confirmed that Hedi Slimane, the French designer turned photographer, who led the menswear division of the label from 1997 to 2000 before moving on to design at Dior Homme, will return to YSL with ‘total creative responsibility for the brand image and all its collections’.
Hedi Slimane had created stagewear for groups such as The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand and The Kills and artists such as David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Jack White. Inventor of the rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic with his Black Tie collection for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche A/W 2000-01 he signed the debut of "skinny". And we thank him for this! In the end: what is hotter than a man in a edgy skinny suit?!
I just can't wait to see what innovations he will bring to the YSL Womenswear pre-collection. Roll on June!
